It was my December Book of the Month pick and truth be told I almost passed on all the books for December on BOTM but, I saw so many excellent reviews about this one and decided at the last minute….why not? So when I saw this book so heavily compared to Love Actually and the Juliet/Mark couple, I was eager to read it. My favorite couple David (Hugh Grant) and Natalie (Martine McCutcheon) followed closely by Juliet (Kira Knightly) and Mark (Andrew Lincoln). I watch it every year and it never gets old no matter how cheesy and unrealistic is it. One of my absolute favorite holiday movie is Love Actually. His poems strongly condemn the civil wars that have plagued East Africa and advocate tolerance and peace. One of those features-the story of Holocaust-survivor-turned-philanthropist Henri Landwirth (whom both Walter Cronkite and John Glenn told Kristin was the most amazing person they’d ever known)-partially inspired Kristin’s 2012 novel, The Sweetness of Forgetting, which was a bestseller all over the world. Her favorite stories at PEOPLE, however, were the “Heroes Among Us” features-tales of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. After stints covering health and lifestyle for American Baby, Men’s Health, and Woman’s Day, she became a reporter for PEOPLE and spent more than a decade working for the publication, covering everything from the Super Bowl to high-profile murders to celebrity interviews with the likes of Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, OutKast, Justin Timberlake, and Patrick Dempsey. As mentioned above, I might be in the minority. Fans of NLMG, please forgive me! When I started Klara and The Sun, I had no expectations, and so was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed Klara as a narrator. Regrettably, I didn’t enjoy NLMG as I wanted to, especially after reading so many positive reviews of it. And yes, I believe I’m in the minority or possibly the only one in the entire bibliography world □ But I wasn’t so surprised because it took me three times to start and finish ‘Never Let Me Go’, while I was drawn to Klara from the start and had no problems finishing it. |
